Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of game theory in the context of business competition and managerial decision-making in an increasingly dynamic and competitive economic era. Game theory, first systematically formulated by Von Neumann and Morgenstern (1944) and further developed by Nash (1950) through the concept of Nash Equilibrium, has evolved into a highly relevant strategic analysis instrument for modern business management. This study employs a quantitative method with a comparative case study approach involving 85 companies operating in oligopolistic industries in Indonesia. Data were collected through structured surveys and secondary document analysis of annual financial reports for the period 2020-2024. The results indicate that companies adopting game theory frameworks in strategic planning achieve an average profitability 28.4% higher than those that do not (F = 34.217; R² = 0.684; p < 0.05). These findings confirm that a deep understanding of competitor strategies, prediction of competitive responses, and selection of dominant strategies based on Nash Equilibrium are determinant factors in optimal managerial decision-making in business environments characterized by uncertainty and strategic interdependence.
